Katharine M. Marchyok, associate
Kate earned her J.D., with a concentration in Litigation, from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2009. She also earned a M.S. in Nonprofit Administration, with an emphasis on arts and cultural organizations, from Boston University in 2005, and a B.F.A. in Theatre Design & Production from the University of Michigan in 1999.
Previously Kate worked for professional theatre organizations in Connecticut and New York City, interned at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts in the Department of Strategic Research and Analysis, and was the Financial Coordinator for the Department of Genetics and Genomics at the Boston University School of Medicine.
While attending the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Kate was a member of the Thomas M. Cooley Moot Court Board, a member of the 2008 State of Michigan Moot Court Competition team for Thomas M. Cooley, a Semi-Finalist in the Intra-school Moot Court competition, and was named Sixth Best Advocate out of nearly one hundred and twenty participants in the First Year Moot Court Competition.
Also during law school Kate externed with the Washtenaw County Public Defenders Office in Ann Arbor, Michigan, representing indigent clients in the felony division. She was also the Student Bar Association Secured Transactions Tutor where she taught weekly review classes on Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code, covering a broad range of topics including creditors’ rights and bankruptcy.
While attending law school and post-graduation, Kate worked at the Law Offices of Parker and Parker in Howell, Michigan, first as a Law Clerk and later as an Attorney, in the areas of probate and civil litigation, estate planning, and trust administration.
Kate currently serves as a court-appointed attorney for the Ingham County 30th Circuit Court , in felony criminal matters, and as a court-appointed attorney and guardian ad litem in the Ingham County 30th Circuit Court and Livingston County 44thCircuit Court Family Divisions, in child abuse and neglect and juvenile delinquency matters.
Kate practices in the areas of Nonprofit Law, Intellectual Property, Child Welfare, Criminal Defense, and Probate and Estate Planning. Kate is licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. She is a member of the Ingham County Bar Association, the Junior League of Lansing, and is a Board Member of the Friends of Theatre at Michigan State University.
